Oyak Horse, a key division of Horse Powertrain, a global leader in low-emission hybrid and combustion powertrains, has reached a significant milestone: producing 7.5 million engines at its Bursa plant in Türkiye. The milestone demonstrates the Bursa plant’s significance within the company’s global network and demonstrates its expanding role in meeting the world’s demand for efficient hybrid engines.

In response to this rising hybrid demand, Oyak Horse has added approximately 100 new jobs to support a third production shift; increasing the plant’s workforce by 10%.

The workforce expansion comes as the facility scales production, already churning out more than 1,500 engines on a daily basis. Between 2023 and 2024, the Bursa plant experienced a 38% surge in total output - a clear indication of the growing need for hybrid powertrain solutions globally.

“The Bursa facility, which covers 81,000 square metres and operates with a team of around 1,000 employees, exports 75% of its production to international markets”

OYAK Horse’s 7.5m milestone supporting decarbonisation

Gökhan Deniz, General Manager at Oyak Horse Türkiye, emphasised the importance of this milestone, stating: “This achievement is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our team over the past 54 years.

“[…] In Türkiye, the Horse team is committed and ready to play a key role in providing mobility solutions that support decarbonisation and facilitate the global energy transition.”

Deniz’s words are particularly poignant given the plant’s history of over five decades of manufacturing excellence. The Bursa facility, which covers 81,000 square metres and operates with a team of around 1,000 employees, exports 75% of its production to international markets. It stands as one of the critical pillars of Horse Powertrain’s global production footprint, which spans 17 plants and five R&D centres worldwide.

The milestone engine is a cutting-edge hybrid

The 7.5 millionth engine produced at Oyak Horse is the HR16 Gen3 hybrid engine, a 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre petrol engine that combines efficiency with performance, tailored for the hybrid vehicle market. It delivers a maximum power output of 69kW at 5,600rpm, and fully complies with the EURO 6D FULL emissions standards—reflecting the company’s commitment to lower emissions and regulatory compliance.

This hybrid engine is designed for both European markets and global demand, positioning Oyak Horse as an important player in energy-efficient automotive production efforts.

Driving solutions beyond engine production for global automotive challenges

Oyak Horse’s role goes beyond engine production. The plant also houses a high-pressure aluminium injection facility, engine and gearbox departments, as well as an advanced R&D centre, which underpins its capabilities in innovation. The company’s additional services—ranging from prototyping to emissions testing and training—solidify its integral contribution to the automotive industry.

With its three-shift operation now in full swing, Oyak Horse is well-positioned to continue its role as a pivotal player in global powertrain solutions, supplying low-emission engines to international markets.

Global leadership in powertrain innovation

Horse Powertrain, the parent company of Oyak Horse, is already an important mover in the development of efficient, low-emission powertrains, considering that Geely and Renault, (including Geely Holding and Geely Auto), established the HORSE equal joint venture in as early as May 2024.

HORSE, headquartered in Madrid, Spain, operates across 17 plants and five R&D centres worldwide. Annually, it produces 3.2 million engines, transmissions, and other various powertrain technologies.
