BMW to adopt Solid Power’s cell pilot production lines at its own Cell Manufacturing Competence Centre at Parsdorf
The two companies say they have expanded their joint development agreement and added a research and development license as a basis for their common next steps. This license enables BMW to establish an all-solid-state battery (ASSB) prototype line at its Cell Manufacturing Competence Centre (CMCC) in Parsdorf near Munich.
This expanded partnership will include conducting complementary cell development and manufacturing activities to advance ASSB cell design and manufacturing.
BMW says its personnel will work with Solid Power to optimise cell manufacturing processes before the installation of its prototype line at Parsdorf. Solid Power plans to deliver full scale automotive cells to BMW Group for testing purposes this year. A first BMW demonstrator vehicle featuring ASSB technology is planned before 2025.
