Algeria – According to the deal signed today, SOVAC will make the Volkswagen Golf, Seat Ibiza, Skoda Octavia and the Caddy van from early 2017. A new assembly hall will be constructed on a 150-hectare site in Relizane, and after a phased ramp up will produce over 100 vehicles per day.
“For us, local assembly is an effective way of starting production in Algeria,” commented Andreas Lauenroth, head of Foreign Production for Volkswagen. “We will be providing targeted training for local employees in quality, production and logistics at the European production facilities of our brands. This will enable us to reach ‘made in Europe’ quality standards in Algeria.”
Since 2001, SOVAC has been a sales partner for VW, VW Commercial Vehicles, Audi, Seat, Skoda and Porsche, last year delivering 30,000 new VW Group vehicles. The Group holds a minority stake in the new joint venture with SOVAC.
