Danny Auerswald will assume the position of managing director at VW Saxony starting July, overseeing technology and logistics at the Zwickau, Chemnitz, and Dresden plants. His leadership will guide a fully electric production network. Auerswald succeeds Robert Janssen, who transitions to executive vice-president, overseeing production and product management at SAIC Volkswagen in Shanghai.

Auerswald has been spearheading the production of Audi and VW models at the VW Group’s Bratislava plant in Slovakia since 2022. Prior to this role, he served as the site manager of the Transparent Factory in Dresden, overseeing the commencement of ID.3 production.

Auerswald also successfully managed Volkswagen Group’s assembly plant in Pekan, Malaysia, from 2016 to 2020, where he supervised the production of various models including the Passat, Tiguan, Polo, Vento and Jetta. His journey in production and logistics at VW began in 2013 after spending five years at Volkswagen Consulting.

Danny Auerswald to lead VW Saxony, bringing global production expertise

Danny Auerswald will oversee technology and logistics as VW Saxony’s managing director starting in July

Dr. Christian Vollmer, the board chairman at Volkswagen Saxony and head of production and logistics of the Volkswagen brand, remarked: “Danny Auerswald combines regional and international experience and is therefore the ideal choice as managing director of Volkswagen Sachsen. I look forward to continuing to successfully manage the Volkswagen locations in Saxony together with him.

“He has aligned Volkswagen Sachsen specifically to the significantly changed production situation due to market conditions at all three locations over the past twelve months. Robert Janssen, a China expert, is now returning to Shanghai. I wish him every success in his new tasks and look forward to continuing to work together.”

Janssen, who joined VW in 2000, has held various positions both in Germany and abroad, including technical management at Auto5000 in Wolfsburg, oversight of the Kaluga body shop in Russia, and management of all SAIC Volkswagen production sites in China. In 2022, he assumed the chairmanship of Volkswagen Sachsen along with responsibilities for the technology and logistics department.
