Algeria - Assembly of the Audi A3 Sportback, A3 Sedan and Q2 has started in Relizane. The plant is operated by Sovac Production S.P.A - a joint venture between the German OEM and the Algerian car dealer Sovac.
"This entry into the Group’s multi-brand factory is a logical step into the Algerian growth market," commented Peter Will, head of planning and steering of CKD/MKD/SKD projects at Audi. "By specifically training local employees, we are ensuring Audi quality and utilising synergies with the other Group brands in production and logistics, laying the foundation for continued growth in North Africa."
The Audi models will be assembled alongside the Volkswagen Golf, Polo, Tiguan, Passat and Caddy, the Skoda Octavia, Rapid and Fabia, as well as the SEAT Ibiza, Arona, Leon and Ateca.
In June 2018, the VW Group announced that its strategy in North Africa would be lead by SEAT. This news came shortly after assembly of the SEAT Ibiza started at Relizane, which was then joined by the Arona and Leon in July.
Africa represents a key growth market for the VW Group. In September 2018, VW signed memorandums of understanding with the governments of Ghana and Nigeria and revealed plans to build a plant in each country.
