US – As global automotive technology director, Jeffrey Sternberg will develop DuPont’s portfolio of renewably sourced materials and fuels for the industry.
DuPont currently offers 100 product families for automotive applications and is looking to expand its lightweighting solutions, working with vehicle-makers and tier one component manufacturers. One recent project with PSA Peugeot Citroen showed that a side impact beam made from a developmental thermoplastic composite technology could pass crash tests while being 40% lighter than ultra high-strength steel (UHSS).
“The industry is examining every component and every system to lower CO2 and improve fuel economy,” commented Sternberg, who joined DuPont in 1988. “Advanced materials and renewably sourced materials are central to making those systems lighter, more efficient and sustainable.”
