Spain - The compact car is now being made at the SEAT plant in Martorell, which is located about half an hour from Barcelona. It was previously made at Audi's plant in Brussels.
"Over the last years, the Martorell plant with its highly qualified employees has produced our Audi Q3 and made this model a great success," recalled Peter Kössler, board of management member for production and logistics at Audi. "The plant has gained a lot of experience with our extremely quality-oriented Audi production system. Therefore, Martorell is for us the ideal place to manufacture our new Audi A1, one of our strategic pillars in this segment."
The Martorell plant recently hit a production milestone with the Q3, with the 800,000 unit rolling off its lines in July 2018. The new Q3 is now being made at Audi's plant in Györ, Hungary, making way for the A1. This is due to the fact that the compact car shares the same MQB Ao platform as the SEAT Ibiza and Arona, which are also made at Martorell.
Back in April 2018, SEAT announced that production increased at the Martorell factory by 12.3% during the first quarter of the year due to strong demand for the Ibiza, Arona and Leon. It is now operating at over 80% capacity.
