China – The laser station for the welding and cutting of car bodies is operated in full automatic mode and includes seam-tracking technology in the welding tool. A small robot-carried xy stage with a cutting tool is used for laser cutting of shocktowers, plus reference plates in the side and roof. The flexibility of fibre technology enables the fast transfer of the laser beam between processes within the same station.
Permanova Lasersystem has also prepared the process documentation according to the Volvo Cars welding standard (JQAP).
Production at Volvo Cars in China began in November, with a Volvo S60L the first off the line.
