GAZ has launched Mitsubishi Pajero Sport frame production at its Nizhny Novgorod site under the terms of an agreement with PCMA Rus, the joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroën and Mitsubishi Motors.
GAZ has responsibility for welding the frames, applying the protective anti-corrosion coat and supplying the frames to the conveyor of the PCMA Rus assembly plant in Kaluga.
It has purchased a semi-automotive welding machine and air cleaners as well as installing equipment for frame transportation along the welding jigs. The company has also set up a phosphating treatment line, while modernising an existing electrophoresis line. Welding jigs and checkout equipment have been provided by Mitsubishi.
The project has created 85 jobs and workers have completed training in compliance with PCMA Rus quality standards.
Bo Andersson, president of GAZ, described the project as “a milestone in automotive cluster development in the Nizhny Novgorod region”.
