As part of Bentley’s ambitious Beyond100 strategy, a state-of-the-art paintshop breaks ground in Crewe, signifying a leap towards Battery-Powered Electric Vehicle (BEV) production and a commitment to sustainability, innovation and digital manufacturing
Bentley Motors has embarked on its stated goal of becoming fully electric and the foremost sustainable luxury automotive manufacturer by commencing construction on a groundbreaking new paintshop in Crewe. This investment revitalises the 85-year-old site, signaling a new era of electrification and reinforcing Bentley’s dedication to Crewe, England. Situated at Bentley’s carbon-neutral headquarters, the new facility holds paramount importance in preparing for future Battery-Powered Electric Vehicle production and establishing a new standard in next-generation, digital, flexible and high-value manufacturing operations.
Andreas Lehe, Bentley’s Board Member for Manufacturing, and Jan-Henrik Lafrentz, Bentley’s Board Member for Finance and IT, inaugurated construction through a groundbreaking ceremony.
Scheduled for completion in 2025, the new 12,460 Sq. m paintshop will offer customers an expanded palette of nearly 100 individual colours, integrated into the building’s exterior design. Furthermore, a four-story office building will accommodate over 370 Bentley colleagues.
The development is part of a £2.5 billion investment program in future products, including the Pyms Lane factory in Crewe, where all Bentley models are meticulously handcrafted.
Andreas Lehe remarked, “Breaking ground on this new state-of-the-art building is a milestone moment and supports our aim for a benchmark position in new innovative technologies, skills, and facilities to enable a truly digital, highly-flexible benchmark for luxury car manufacturing.”
He added, “While also modernising our site, it is a clear demonstration of our ambition and long-term commitment to Crewe as we transform Bentley into the leader of sustainable luxury mobility.”
Bentley’s pioneering Beyond100 strategy entails a complete reinvention of its product range to embrace an electrified future, while striving for end-to-end carbon neutrality by 2030.
The company’s digital, zero environmental impact manufacturing facility will pioneer a go-to-zero approach in addressing the environmental impacts of manufacturing, setting a precedent for the luxury car industry in next-generation digital applications.
