Germany - The facility has won the Automotive Lean Production Award for the first time. The award was presented by Automobil Produktion and Agamus Consult, and according to Volkswagen, it represents the significant changes that have been implemented at Wolfsburg over the past few years.
"The team has genuinely earned this award," commented VW board member for production Andreas Tostmann. "People are implementing the changes required for greater productivity and high quality with many initiatives and exemplary speed. We need this approach more than ever before to safeguard the future of the plant. Wolfsburg must be a model plant in our brand’s worldwide production system."
The jury that handed out the award assessed over 50 different stations in the plant, covering areas in the press shop, paint shop, assembly and logistics. They voted for VW's Wolfsburg plant over 80 others that took part in the competition.
Around 3,500 units of the Golf, Golf Sportsvan, Touran and Tiguan are made at Wolfsburg every day. The SEAT Tarraco will be added to this portfolio at the end of the year. The 44 millionth vehicle rolled off production lines at the plant back in 2017.
