US – The OEM’s American branch announced the milestone achieved by its parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, 44 years after the launch of the Subaru Leone 4WD Estate Van. Today, all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles account for the majority of Subaru’s sales; last year, the proportion was 98%.
These models are fitted with the horizontally opposed Subaru Boxer engine as well as a symmetrical AWD system. According to the manufacturer, this combination provides stability, traction and balance, enabling the vehicle to tackle high speeds and sharp cornering.
The OEM stated: “The symmetrical AWD system is one of the core technologies that underpins Subaru’s commitment to safety and driving pleasure.”
