Indonesia - Following strong demand in the ASEAN region, the OEM has announced that it will boost Xpander production at its Bekasi plant by 20% to 120,000 units. A further increase of 30,000 units is expected to take place in fiscal year 2019.

"I am very pleased that customers in Indonesia and other ASEAN markets have enthusiatically accepted the XPANDER," commented Osamu Masuko, chief executive of Mitsubishi Motors. "We will continue to devote our efforts to deliver this exciting car as quickly as possible to more customers."

News of the latest expansion to the plant at Bekasi follows on from an earlier boost to Xpander production of 10,000 per month in July 2018, which was facilitated by investment in additional welding and assembly operations. The company also added a second shift at the factory last October to support rising demand. Between August 2017 and June 2018, Mitsubishi received around 80,000 orders for the Xpander in Indonesia alone. As a result, the car took top spot in the nation's sales chart.

The OEM also recently announced that it had passed the 5m production milestone at its plant in Laem Chabang, Thailand.
