BorgWarner facility ThailandThailand - BorgWarner has inaugurated a new turbocharger production plant in Rayong, Thailand. Covering an area of 6,500 sq. m, the site has been established to meet growing demand for turbochargers in the Southeast Asian automotive market.

"Thailand is a very important production base for Asian automakers and offers an excellent business environment," commented Robin Kendrick, president and general manager of BorgWarner Turbo Systems. "Many leading automakers have production facilities in Thailand. With our new facility in Rayong we serve them with localised manufacturing to meet their thriving demand while strengthening our leadership position."

The new plant follows lean production principles that the supplier has adopted at its other facilities across the world. Efficiency and flow of the production lines are key, as is cleanliness - employees pass through an over-pressurised airlock before entering the shop floor, which keeps out any particles that may interfere with the production processes.

A report published by US-based research company Global Industry Analysts predicts that the world's automotive turbocharger market will be worth around US$12.2 billion by 2022, with sales reaching 53.6m units. Asia-Pacific is highlighted as the fastest growing market, expected to witness a CAGR of 9.7% between 2017 and 2022.
