India – The joint venture operation between Magneti Marelli and Samvardhana Motherson at Bawal will make lighting systems and air intake manifolds for customers in the National Capital Region, Delhi, such as Maruti Suzuki and Honda Motors. It will make up to 1.2m rear lamps and 900,000 manifolds per year.
The 7,600 sq.m plant, located on 21,000 sq.m of land in Haryana, is described as being “modern”. V.C. Sehgal, chairman of Samvardhana Motherson, said it would enable Magneti Marelli Motherson (MMM) to “expand capacities and service our customers in the region more efficiently”.
“We aim to deliver products specifically tailored for this big market and I would say that with Samvardhana Motherson we found the ideal partner to actualise our strategy and develop the business,” commented Pietro Gorlier, CEO of Magneti Marelli.
MMM began with three plants in India to serve the automotive hubs of Pune, Sanand and NCR, and is a 50:50 joint venture.
