Mikron Machining Technology introduced a new linear transfer machine, the Multistep XT-200 to the world market. The company says its has combined the productivity of a transfer machine with the change-over flexibility of a machining centre. The new high-performance machine is said to have very good changeover flexibility and to be very economical.

The concept is based on individual, fixed dual-spindle modules; the main advantage is in the short chip-to-chip time achieved by the dual-spindle system. Up to 144 tools guarantee considerable versatility. It is reportedly possible to machine up to 5½ sides of a workpiece up to 200 mm without re-chucking. Even the most demanding machining tasks can apparently be accomplished. The company emphasised that precision parts can be manufactured in a cost-effective manner whether working with large or small series.
