India – Localised production is being implemented at the plant in Pune in line with a ‘Year of Excellence’ strategy and in response to what the OEM says is “overwhelming demand” from Indian customers. A diesel option will also be offered.
Eberhard Kern, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, described the move as “an important step towards local value addition for the new S-Class”. He added: “We are confident that with the manufacturing of the new S-Class 350 CDI in India, we will be able to create a new benchmark and also meet the rising demand for the car in India.”
At the same time, Mercedes-Benz India also announced the installation of a rooftop solar array based on the grid tie system which will contribute to the generation of 150,000 units of power per annum.
