3M says it has developed a new magnet bonding adhesive system designed for bonding permanent magnets to rotors and stators in high-efficiency permanent magnet (PM) electric motors.
The company says its AU-205 system combines a modified structural epoxy adhesive with a thickness control system, configured in a low-tack double-sided tape product. It’s claimed that by providing this adhesive in a tape form it simplifies permanent magnet positioning allowing the magnets to be precisely positioned, or repositioned, if needed.
AU-205 also improves control of the permanent magnet bond line thickness, which is critical to motor performance, says 3M.
