US – The company’s Powertrain unit is providing the all-wheel drive (AWD) system for the 2015 Hyundai Genesis, the first sedan from the OEM to feature an AWD known as HTRAC.
Hyundai’s new HTRAC AWD was developed as a multi-mode system, providing an electronic, variable torque split clutch with active torque control between the front and rear axles. The system uses a newly right-hand drop version of Magna Powertrain’s active transfer case, enabling Hyundai to overcome underbody packaging constraints.
The new Genesis will be built at Hyundai’s Ulsan plant in South Korea; the AWD will be shipped from Magna’s Lannach and Ilz facilities in Austria.
