The Lasertec 125 3D hybrid is new, 5-axis machining centre with integrated laser deposition welding capability for production of complex components in one hit, claims DMG MORI
The company says this system is intended for the manufacture, maintenance and repair of workpieces up to 1,250mm in diameter by 745mm high and weighing up to 2,000kg.
It’s claimed the automatic changeover between laser deposition welding and simultaneous 5-axis milling in a single set-up reduces processing times by up to 80%. The company notes that applications for the hybrid machines include the production and repair of hot and cold forming and forging dies, and claims that the service life of repaired inserts for a die casting mould, for example, is three times longer than if it had been repaired by manual welding.
The system can be integrated into a CAD/CAM process chain and uses hybrid CAM software for powder nozzle technology, developed for DMG Mori by Siemens NX. It’s claimed, this enables end-to-end programming of repairs with users able to change easily between machining and laser deposition welding during programming. AM Evaluator software is a downstream evaluation tool for 3D process data that can graphically display stored 3D data from the production process for evaluation purposes.
