UK – Installation of the new 7,900 tonne servo press line has been completed at the company’s Halewood plant. The new press will increase the speed and volume of pressed part production.
Richard Else, operations director at Halewood, said: “This colossal new press line reinforces Jaguar Land Rover’s long term investment in UK manufacturing…This investment ensures we can make more panels, even more efficiently and will continue to do so for many years to come.”
Measuring 13 metres tall and over 85 metres long, installation of the Aida servo press required major alterations to the press shop at Halewood, including raising the roof level by 12 metres. The reconfigured press shop bay now has a 50% larger foot print to accommodate the new machinery.
The press features energy recovery technology and a fast die change-over time of less than five minutes. Trial pressings will begin in April with production of both steel and aluminium panels for the JLR group to begin in the summer.
