Hyundai’s new $7.59B Metaplant in Georgia gears up to commence production of the highly acclaimed 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5, reinforcing its commitment to pioneering EV technology and creating thousands of jobs in the region.

Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) has announced that the first vehicle to roll off its new $7.59 billion Metaplant production facility in Georgia will be the eagerly awaited 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5.

Scheduled to begin production in the fourth quarter of this year, the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be the flagship model manufactured at the new plant, which is expected to create 8,500 direct jobs in the region. “This is a very exciting time for HMGMA,” said Oscar Kwon, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America.

“We are nearing completion of our state-of-the-art facility and are preparing to launch production of the highly anticipated IONIQ 5.” The Hyundai IONIQ 5 model has already garnered numerous accolades, including Best Electric SUV and Best EV for the Money.

Hyundai’s investment in the Metaplant is not just about production capacity; but is  being called a strategic move to help bolster the local economy. Alongside the creation of 8,500 direct jobs, Hyundai’s broader investments in Georgia, including a $5 billion EV battery cell plant, are projected to generate nearly 40,000 jobs and $4.6 billion in annual individual earnings, according to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research.

The OEM’s commitment to innovation extends beyond physical manufacturing. The carmaker’s Meta-Factory concept leverages advanced technologies such as AI and 5G to optimise plant operations and facilitate virtual problem-solving through digital twins, enhancing efficiencies through digital and smart manufacturing.
