US – As part of its planned $300m investment in Michigan, General Motors will start construction of a $63m expansion to the Lansing Delta Township facility.
The expansion will add nearly 263,000 sq.ft to the plant, including 28,000 sq.ft in general assembly and more than 181,000 sq.ft in the bodyshop for the newest generation of robotics and lean flexible tooling. A 54,000 sq.ft addition to the paintshop will allow the use of improved sealers and coatings to increase corrosion resistance.
Opened in 2006, Lansing is GM’s newest plant in North America and was the first automotive manufacturing facility in the world to become a Gold-certified Leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
