Henkel has launched a new polyurethane matrix resin called Loctite MAX 3. Along with KraussMaffei and Rühl Puromer, the company has developed a process for the manufacture of components based on glass or carbon fi bre and using high-pressure RTM resin transfer moulding (HP-RTM) which creates a surface quality suitable for automotive exteriors.
The fully automated process depends on Loctite MAX 3, a three-component product containing resin, hardener and an internal release agent matched to a self-releasing polyurethane lacquer from Rühl.
According to Henkel, the resin offers faster curing compared with epoxy resins plus better penetration due to low viscosity. The internal release agent enables easy detachment from the mould, ensuring surface quality suitable for immediate painting and bonding.
