A new system from Comau integrates a welding gun with the fl ange connected directly to the robot without the need for any adapter kit. It features a compact welding gun, equipped with an improved transformer, which is rotated 90° to further decrease the dimensions of the body and shift the centre of gravity closer to the robot’s wrist. The pneumatic cylinder for balancing the welding gun is not necessary and the fi eldbus module is controlled via the robot’s software. The company claims that work to optimise all of the system’s components has resulted in it weighing 40% less than previous models and its reduced weight and dimensions enable a greater density of robots to operate in the welding cells. The welding gun can be installed and used with all robots, even as a retro fi t item, says Comau. www.comau.com
