Czech Republic – Skoda has built the eleven-millionth engine in its corporate history – an EA211 series 1.4 TSI motor.
Currently producing 1.2- and 1.4-litre versions of the EA211 and EA111 engine series, the Mladá Boleslav plant’s 3,600 employees manufacture up to 4,400 units every day.
The manufacturer says it will continue to expand its engine competence, which will be supported through a €34m ($44m) investment in a new powertrain centre at the company’s development centre in Cesana.
The company has also produced its four-millionth Octavia (combining production figures from all the plants manufacturing the model).
At the time of its launch in October 1996, the Octavia was the first completely new model after the fall of the Iron Curtain and marked the start of the partnership between Skoda and Volkswagen.
