Mexico – The company has pledged $10.5m to make more of the resins that are used in automotive coatings, in response to expanded production by its customers within the country.
The Axalta headquarters for Latin America – one of its three production sites in Mexico – will use manufacturing technology to improve operational efficiency as well as reducing waste and the overall environmental footprint. The facility currently makes coatings for global OEMs, plus refinishing products used in bodyshops.
“Investing in Mexico reflects not only our commitment to our customers but also our confidence in the country’s OEMs’ ability to produce world-class vehicles for the global automotive market,” commented Steven Markevich, senior vice-president and president, OEM Automotive, Axalta.
“This investment underscores the company’s commitment to support our continued growth in Mexico with locally produced coatings,” explained Jorge Cossio, president, Latin America for Axalta. “The investment will support Axalta customers in the light vehicle OEM and commercial transportation markets.” He said the expansion would also improve Axalta’s ability to serve the wider Americas market.
