Mexico – The company’s third factory in the country, covering 19,000 sq.m, will make carpets, inner dashes and floor insulators from the start of 2017. The plant will supply US and German OEMs producing vehicles for the local market.
“This additional location in Mexico is necessary in order to cope with the high demand of OEMs in North America for our lightweight and multifunctional components,” said Martin Hirzel, CEO of Autoneum. “At the same time, we are strengthening our position in this important growth market in line with our strategy.”
Autoneum already has a factory at Hermosillo, Sonora State, and another through its subsidiary, UGN, at Silao in Guanajuato State. The company says that a presence in Mexico brings benefits through the country’s NAFTA membership, plus strong demand among OEMs for noise-dampening components in the vehicle interior floor, which it describes as “a decisive factor for the expansion of production capacities”.
