Weber Ultrasonics and Hufschmied Zerspanungswerkzeuge have developed ultrasonic systems for milling, cutting and sawing brittle lightweight materials. The companies claim these systems use reduced process forces so in the processing of carbon and glass fibre the material removal rate is higher. In addition, they claim tool life is increased through reduced strain on the tools.
According to the developers these new resonant systems can improve processing accuracy. Delicate workpieces can be manufactured with gantry systems and it is possible to use industrial robots as alternatives for the implementation of an automated production process.
