Russia – The Camry has been produced at the plant since 2007, but the new-generation model has seen the introduction of two new production shops costing 2.7 billion roubles (£439m), a resin (plastics) moulding facility and a stamping shop. The investment will boost output and raise local content to 30%.
Toyota plans to double production capacity at St Petersburg, which serves the Russian, Belarus and Kazakh markets, from 50,000 to 100,000 vehicles a year by the end of 2015. A second model, the RAV4, will be introduced in 2016, when total investment in the plant will reach approximately 16 billion roubles. An additional 800 personnel will join the existing workforce of 1,830.
“Toyota is committed to sustainable development in Russia, and therefore we have planned a significant future expansion here in Saint-Petersburg,” commented Didier Leroy, Toyota Motor Europe president and CEO.
