Fronius claims it has evolved its Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) weld process a stage further with an algorithm which it says makes it possible to use this process in applications that had been largely the preserve of globular and pulsed arcs. Previously supplied systems can be upgraded at no extra cost, says the company.
By developing the algorithm, Fronius developers have revisited the forward-andback motion of the wire electrode and boosted its frequency up to 130Hz, it says, while the current profi le of the characteristics has been re-engineered. Depending on the fi ller metal and wire diameter, this enables the operating limit of the CMT process to be raised by up to 40%, says the company.
