US – The milestone vehicle was a Candy White Limited Edition with a 1.8-litre turbo engine. The achievement was reached in the midst of a $900m expansion to add a second model, a seven-seat SUV.
“Built in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Volkswagen Passat embodies the spirit of America and continues to play a key role in the brand’s US growth strategy,” said Michael Horn, president and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America.
The expansion at Chattanooga will add 2,000 personnel and VW’s North American Engineering and Planning Center.
