Johnson Controls has debuted a two-colour door panel technology which avoids both the need to assemble two different parts and to use an appliqué to cover the split, its says.
The company says its innovation gives the high-quality appearance found within the premium segment, but at low cost. The colour split is positioned within a groove in the door panel carrier.
Johnson Controls says that simulation and tooling technology used during development have ensured the consistency of the finished product. The company lists the benefits as reduced weight, cost and logistical outlay, plus improved noise-vibration-harshness and crash performance.
The two-colour foil process will be available for model year 2016 vehicles.
