Continental builds facility in Kaunas

06 August 2018 | Automotive Manufacturing Solutions

Lithuania – The supplier has recently celebrated the groundbreaking at its first plant in Lithuania, where it plans to make electronic components such as seat control units and radars for the European automotive market. Work is scheduled to finish in 2019, with operation slated for the second half of the year.

“The construction of our first plant in Lithuania is an important part of our growth strategy in Europe. We are glad that with the modern industrial region here in Kaunas, the excellent infrastructure and the highly qualified workforce, we have found the ideal location,” commented Helmut Matschi, member of the Continental executive board and head of the interior division.

The company now has 30 facilities around the world producing electronic components for vehicles. The new plant, it says, will help satisfy rising demand for these components across the industry, which is being spurred on by the development of autonomous driving systems as well as strong consumer demand for in-vehicle connectivity.

Like several other suppliers, Continental also has its sights on the electrified vehicle market, and is hoping to take advantage of future growth in the segment. It recently announced that it was building a new plant in China to produce 48-volt systems.
