Precision Micro photo etchingThe use of photo etching offer OEMs the ability to produce aesthetic complex mesh patterns and high definition surface engraving, claims Precision Micro. The company explains that this process doesn’t require hard steel tooling, instead, it uses digital tooling that it’s claimed offers interior trim designers greater freedom to experiment while reducing set-up or modification costs. Also it’s claimed the use of digital tooling speeds up the transition from prototype to production.

The company says that the etching process is both burr and stress-free, and openings and surface engraving are possible to 0.025mm micron accuracy. Application examples include tactile fascias, steering and gear knob inlays, dials, and tread plates.
