PSA Vigo upgrade

PSA upgrades look to bring the Vigo plant into the Factory 4.0 era

Spain/Portugal – PSA will introduce a fourth team in Vigo and a third in Mangualde to service production of the group's new line-up of leisure activity vehicles (LAV).

The two plants in PSA’s the Iberian Industrial Division, have made “profound changes to accommodate the new models”, a group announcement stated.

The company reports that industrial innovations bring both sites “firmly into the Factory 4.0 era.”

The plant upgrades feature automatic storage on press lines to geometric quality control using artificial vision, cobots and a full kitting system with distribution via AGVs.

A new platform based on the group’s existing EMP2 architecture has been developed for the vehicles, benchmarked for the LAV segment that prioritises efficiency, manoeuvrability, comfort, safety and practicality.

The new models will accommodate PSA’s latest generation of powertrains and driver assistance equipment and will come in two lengths, each available in 5- and 7‑seater versions.
