Porsche and Schuler build press shop

06 September 2018 | Automotive Manufacturing Solutions

Germany – The two companies have announced that they will work work together to construct a ‘Smart Press Shop’ as part of a new joint venture, the location of which is yet to be revealed. Both Porsche and Schuler will invest a double-digit million euro amount in the project.

“Porsche wants to use the joint venture to lay the foundations for the future of sports car manufacturing,” commented Albrecht Reimold, member of the executive board for production and logistics at Porsche. “We plan to exploit future technologies and innovations in order to make our processes even more efficient. By dovetailing design, development, car body planning, toolmaking, and production within the Porsche Group, we can significantly influence the quality of our sports cars.”

The press shop will use Schuler’s new Servo 20 technology, which raises maximum output from 18 to 20 strokes per minute while simultaneously reducing energy consumption. It will also adopt a newly developed die-changing concept, making it possible to efficiently produce small batch sizes.

As well as fine tuning the process for making sports cars, Porsche is currently focusing on SUV production after seeing significant demand for its large models. It recently announced that it had started making the new Macan at its Leipzig plant in Germany.
