US – The German factory engineering specialist Eisenmann has won a contract to extend the paint shop at a major truck manufacturing facility in the east of the US. Construction starts at the end of 2018 and is due to finish in the summer of 2020.

“Above all, our customer was very impressed by our leading-edge technology,” commented Timo Steimer, head of automotive system sales, NAFTA, at Eisenmann. “But our sales team’s responsiveness and flexibility throughout the bidding phase were also key factors in this outstanding achievement.”

The extension will comprise of a new building that houses a pretreatment line and the company’s E-Shuttle 200 system. According to Eisenmann, this system has been specifically designed for high throughput rates and helps companies save money by supporting treatment of multiple vehicle models on the same line.

Furthermore, Eisenmann will install its E-Cube system in the plant’s existing paint shop – an overspray removal technology that operates without the use of chemicals or water. It will also fit a modular ‘Smart Clean’ system, the first of its kind to be used in the US, which removes dust and dirt particles from vehicle bodies before the painting process begins.

Annual capacity of the truck plant will be increased from 40,000 units to 77,000 thanks to the extension.

In the November/December issue of AMS Magazine, numerous experts outline innovative ways of enhancing paintshops, such as PPG’s technical director William Brunat and Luigi Lazzari, executive director at Geico Taikisha. Among the solutions are paint that cures at a lower temperature and new heat pump technology.
