India - Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), which is part of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), has made 100,000 vehicles at its plant in Oragadam - an industrial town located near Chennai on the south east coast. The news comes just two years after the facility hit the 50,000 unit milestone.
“DICV has demonstrated its strong and growing importance as one of three global manufacturing facilities for the Fuso brand,” commented Hartmut Schick, president and CEO of MFTBC and head of Daimler Trucks Asia. “For us at MFTBC, we look forward to the continued success of our fellow Daimler Trucks Asia colleagues in India.”
The Oragadam plant started operating in 2012, with output steadily increasing over the during three years consecutively. A second shift was then introduced in 2017.
DICV makes a range of vehicles and components at the facility, including complete knock-down (CKD) kits for BharatBenz, Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso. It also makes various different chassis.
AMS visited the plant near Chennai back in July 2016. Several changes were underway at the time, such as the addition of a new transmission line.
